Cutex nails distinctive new package design
For years, Cutex has been a household name in nail care, but lookalike packaging by competitive branded and private-label products was beginning to confuse consumers and cause lost market share for Cutex. In a Cutex Brands survey, eight out of 10 respondents claimed they were buying Cutex products, even though sales share showed that was not possible.
Shortly after the company changed hands in 2010—from Prestige Brands Holdings to the formation of Cutex Brands—the new management set out to restore the brand to premium status. First, it developed Advanced Revival, the first new nail-polish remover formula in 15 years by combining an acetone-based formula with natural botanical nourishing oils that solidify after application to produce stronger, healthier nails.

Therapeutic baby care rebranded

Trust, efficacy, therapy, and quality: These are the prime attributes buyers of baby-care products seek when searching store shelves for therapeutic solutions to conditions such as cradle cap, teething soreness, and eczema. While Gentle Naturals Baby Therapeutics’ line of baby-care products was well positioned to address these needs, its packaging was lost in “riot of brands, colors, and symbols” found at retail point-of-sale, says Terri Goldstein, founder of The Goldstein Group, the strategic brand consultancy selected to rebrand Gentle Naturals.
Original packaging for the brand comprised bottles and cartons in a teal color, with labels depicting a cartoon-like illustration of a baby with teddy bear against pastel backgrounds of pink, powder blue, and purple.

Kraft cooks up another quick-prep meal kit

Kraft Foods has devised another clever brand extension, designed to help busy families create home-cooked meals quickly, using popular Kraft food products. New Kraft Sizzling Salads in four varieties couples a cooking sauce and a salad dressing in PET bottles housed in an attractive, die-cut carton, for a dinner kit that stands out in the salad dressing aisle.
“Kraft Sizzling Salads Dinner Kits solve the ‘what’s for dinner’ dilemma with a line of perfectly paired cooking sauces and salad dressings that work together to create delicious and satisfying chicken and salad dishes in four easy steps in under 20 minutes,” says Kraft Dressings associate brand manager Anna Vishnevsky. For example, one variety, Southwest Chicken, provides 6 oz of Zesty Fajita cooking sauce and 6 oz of Barbecue Ranch salad dressing to create a six-serving meal.
